School of pharmacy, Henan University grows out of the first health school in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, founded in 1956 and renamed Kaifeng Medical College in 1959. In 2000, the school merged with Henan University and began its undergraduate pharmacy education. Post-graduate students were admitted in 2003. In 2015, doctorate degree in drug system biology was authorized to confer on its students.
After more than 60 years of development, the school has become the executive director unit of the Pharmacy Education Branch of the Chinese Educational Association, the vice chairman unit of the National Duzhong Industrial Technology Innovation Strategy Alliance, the Deputy secretary-general unit of the Chinese Medicine Education Committee of the China Association of Chinese Medicine, the vice chairman unit of Henan Pharmaceutical Association, the chairman unit of the Committee of traditional Chinese Medicine Resources of Henan Pharmaceutical Association, the Vice president of Henan Association of licensed Pharmacists. In June 2005, Academician Liu Changxiao was appointed as honorary dean of our school.
Our school has 101 staff currently, including 18 professors, 38 associate professors, 53 teachers with a doctor's degree, 8 doctoral supervisors and 59 master's supervisors. Among the faculty, there are 1 Dual-Employed Academician, 1 expert of Henan Province Hundred Talents Program, 7 specially appointed professors at Henan University or Yellow River scholars, 7 national new drugs, health food and cosmetics evaluation experts, 5 national professional pharmacist working experts, 5 professional pharmacist working experts in Henan Province, 2 academic and technical leaders of Henan Provinces, 1 expert awarded as innovative talents in Henan Province, 2 professors awarded as innovative talents in colleges and universities of Henan Province and 6 science and technology leaders of Henan Educational Administration. Currently, there are 906 full-time undergraduates, 241 postgraduate and doctoral students in the college.

Our college has four undergraduate majors including pharmacy, pharmaceutical preparations, traditional Chinese pharmacology, clinical pharmacy. In addition, the college also has a doctorate authorization of drug system in biology in the second discipline. And there are two primary master's degree and professional master's degree programs in pharmacy and Chinese materia medica and professional master's degree of education(in medical health field) in pharmacy and Chinese materia medica. Besides, pharmacy and Chinese materia medica are the key first level disciplines in Henan Province.

Our college possesses the research and innovation team of effective substance and innovative drugs of traditional Chinese medicine in Henan Province, an innovation team about the research and development of medicinal and edible dual-use resources in colleges and universities of Henan Province and innovation team of anti-tumor drug pharmacological effect in colleges and universities of Henan Province. The college has a rigorous attitude toward scholarship and strong academic atmosphere. In the past five years, we have undertaken 73 national projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National 973 Project, the National Science and Technology Support Plan, the National Public Welfare Project, the National TCM Standardization Project and Innovative Drugs. And we have published more than 500 papers, among which there are 93 papers in Science Citation Index(SCI),32 published works,35 authorized invention patents and 62 various kinds of awards for scientific research and teaching. The college has been paying attention to improving the ability to serve local economic and social development and adheres to the organic combination of government, industry, university, research and application. The total amount of horizontal projects is nearly 10 million yuan. Eucommia ulmoides, chrysanthemum, Forsythia suspensa and other deep processing projects have become an important pillar of scientific development of regional economy and farmers’ income.

Over the years, the employment rate of undergraduates has been stable at around 98%, and the postgraduate entrance examination rate in 2020 is around 49.78%, of which 58% of the students have be admitted to Peking University, Zhejiang University, and Chinese Academy of Sciences and other key construction universities of “Double First-Class Universities”. At present, the School of Pharmacy has 40 stable internship and practical training bases, such as Henan food and Drug Inspection Institute, Henan Institute of traditional Chinese medicine, Kaifeng Kangnuo Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Xinxiang Zuojinsity, the First Affiliated Hospital of Henan University, and Shanghai Yangpu District Central Hospital. In addition, the field practice bases of medicinal plants have been established in Longyuwan National Forest Park, Jingantai National Geopark in Shangcheng County and Wanxian Mountain in Huixian County，Xinxiang County, which are rich in medicinal plants in Henan.
