Inorganic ion exchange resin engineering and technology research center of colleges and universities in Henan Province was approved by the Department of Education of Henan Province in January 2010.

The strategic orientation of the construction of the center is as follows: 1 using the concept of "independent innovation and industrialization", actively promote the research, development and industrial application of ion exchangers based on inorganic material-silica gel, which is the first in the world to fill the gap in the field of ion exchange at home and abroad, the aim is to replace the traditional ion exchange resin with polystyrene or polyacrylate as skeleton material. It is committed to the rapid expansion of the application field of this new exchange resin, which is a major technological innovation in the field of ion exchange. (2) to speed up the research and development of basic research and process optimization of modified cellulose and modified bacterial cellulose, focusing on industrial application for the purpose of research and development, application fields include sewage treatment, removal of over-standard heavy metal ions in proprietary Chinese medicine, hydrometallurgy, soil remediation and water purification, etc. (3) actively carry out the basic research of new ion exchange materials and explore new ion exchange technologies, with emphasis on the exploration of high-end ion exchange materials and ion exchange technologies.

The purpose and basic tasks of the center are as follows: 1 to research and develop ion exchangers with silica gel as the basic framework, focusing on industrial application, and promoting the creation and industrial application of inorganic ion exchange resins in China. (2) to bring up a R & D team with important international influence, train high-level young scientific and technological talents, and enhance the research, development and application level and international status of ion exchange science in China, to form a well-known R & D and application engineering center in the world. (3) aiming at the areas with great social needs, condensing basic and applied scientific problems, taking the creation of innovative ion exchange materials and technologies as the core, and guided by their functional and industrial applications, develop the methodology of ion exchange materials for high-end applications, look for structural, functional design and controllable strategies, expand basic research and application fields, and actively serve national and local economic construction.

At present, a series of silica gel skeleton ion exchange resins (SI series ion exchange resins) suitable for different applications have been developed, covering most of the varieties with polystyrene or polyacrylate as skeleton materials. SI series ion exchange resins have many advantages: (1) the exchange speed of metal ions in aqueous solution is fast and thorough, and the removal ability of trace heavy metal ions in solution is stronger; (2) the service life is greatly improved; (3) excellent thermal stability, radiation resistance, oxidation resistance and physical and mechanical properties; (5) save petrochemical resources, economic and environmental protection, in line with the national green manufacturing development strategy. Its social and economic significance is also very significant.

Engineering research progress: since its establishment, it has completed the research and development of eight types of resins and realized industrialization; completed the application research of adsorbed copper, nickel and cobalt resins in tailings and lean ores, and basically realized industrial application; completed the application research of adsorbed copper, nickel, chromium and cadmium resin in industrial wastewater treatment, and has passed the evaluation of the Environmental Protection Bureau. After on-the-spot observation, Academician Ye Danian of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Academician Tu Yongqiang of the Chinese Academy of Engineering spoke highly of it. Tang Zhongzhong, founder of Jinchuan Nickel Mine and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, commented: you have done what we wanted to do but did not do.

Undertake projects: since its inception, a total of 12 enterprise cooperation projects have been completed, with a research funding of 8.98 million yuan.

Personnel training: 1 train 12 postgraduates; 2 arrange 185 internships for undergraduates; 3 hold 12 training courses for Jinchuan Group, Luoyang Dingli, Yunnan Copper and other enterprises, with 566 participants.

Progress in the construction of research facilities: 1 the laboratory for the synthesis, functional test and testing of inorganic ion exchange resin was successfully built in the School of Pharmacy of Henan University, about 200 square meters. More than 4.75 million yuan was invested in infrastructure and equipment. 2 two industrial production lines of inorganic ion exchange resin and a resin engineering application laboratory were built in Luoyang Dingli Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd. (pilot base of Henan University), with an investment of more than 2680 yuan in infrastructure and equipment.
